Carla & Hector Stewart opened 'Carla's Academy of Dance' in 2005 with the help of friends and
family. Located in the heart of Abbotsford, our classes are attended by students from Aldergrove,
Abbotsford, Mission, and Chilliwack. We proudly offer quality instruction in ballet, jazz, lyrical,
musical theatre, tap, preschooler music & movement classes, Kindermusik®, acro, hip hop, adult
classes and more!  We are a family oriented school who believe in teaching our students
discipline and values along with solid dance training. As parents, we understand and promote the
importance of age appropriate music, costuming and choreography. Our students consistently
receive high marks in their exams and at local festivals & dance competitions, but they are also
nice and well mannered kids. No divas allowed! Our teachers are dedicated to sharing their love
of dance with students in a way which challenges them, but also inspires them to succeed. We
work with our students to set and achieve individual goals. We recognize and reward special
achievements great and small. We truly value each student and their family as a part of our
Academy family, and we are grateful to everyone for their continuing support of our dream.

Carla Stewart, Owner, Instructor & Artistic
Director of Carla’s Academy of Dance

Carla Stewart,RAD RTS, CDTA has devoted her lifetime to the study and
teaching of classical ballet. Specializing in children's work, Carla has been
sharing her love of dance with hundreds of children in the Abbotsford
community and surrounding areas for the past seven years. Carla began
her training at the age of 2 and worked her way through the Royal
Academy of Dance syllabus to the Advanced level. As a young student at
the Goh Ballet, and Flora Pigeau Dance Academy, Carla prepared for and
entered examinations, competed successfully at local festivals, danced
many roles in The Royal City Youth Ballet's Production of 'The
Nutcracker', and performed in annual recitals. At the age of 11 Carla was
accepted into the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and left home to attend
the school for 2 consecutive summers. After graduating high school,
Carla moved to the east coast with her family where she obtained a
diploma in Business and Information Systems Administration. While in
school, she found a part time job teaching dance to preschool aged
children in a recreation center. It was there that Carla began to learn and
experiment with teaching techniques, and experience the thrill of working
with children. Carla moved to B.C. in 2001 to continue with her education
at UVic, but plans changed when she was hired to teach dance at a
school in Abbotsford. It was during the four years in this teaching
position that Carla decided to pursue teaching dance as a career, and
enrolled in the Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Certificate program.
Carla opened her studio, Carla's Academy of Dance, in 2005 with the
support of family and friends. She now holds her Royal Academy of
Dance Teaching Certificate and is a fully registered member of the Royal
Academy of Dance as well as the Canadian Dance Teachers Association. A
believer in lifelong learning, Carla continues to dance to keep up her
technique and develop as an artist. She also continues to increase her
knowledge and expertise by attending teaching courses, seminars, and
workshops locally and across the country. Recently Carla became a
licensed Kindermusik® educator with the goal of sharing her love of
music & movement and passion for teaching with children of all ages.
